One thing I have learned is that hard times can fall on anyone, people are perfectly healthy one minute and diagnosed with a terminal disease the next.         <![CDATA[<p><strong>I was working out the other day and  my workout partner suggested I try this new energy drink, he told me it was something he had been using for a while and it really gave him sustained energy but without the jitters, or  that shaky feeling you sometimes get with other energy drinks.  What he had me try was called FRS Healthy Energy.  It contains a ton of good for you antioxidants and vitamins like your typical B's, A's and E's. But the  Mega Antioxidant in this product is called Quercetin.  Apparently Quercetin is a naturally occurring antioxidant  in some of the foods we eat such as blueberrie, red onions,apples and cocoa- YUM!   What it does is  actually increase the amount of  mitochondria in your cells helping you function better on a cellular level!  Ladies this stuff is awesome for your skin too - especially if you work out because of all those free radicals being produced as a by product of your workouts.  Okay so enough of the scientific stuff, this is by far the best energy drink I have ever tried and really lives up to its hype, awesome clean energy and focuss!         <![CDATA[<p><strong>The week of September 23rd through the 27th  is Marathon Week in Lake Tahoe, and offers a wide range of events for those who love to walk, run, swim, paddle or pedal through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.  Lake Tahoe is one of my personal favorite places to go and  be active...Capitola and Santa Cruz are of course a close second! </p>

<p>A couple of  my clients and myself will be heading up there on Saturday the 22nd to run the 10k and or the half marathon!  If you are interested in signing up or just want to come out and cheer your friends on click  the link below! </p>

<p>They even have Optomist Kids Fun Runs that are free!  The fun runs feature various distances depending upon age with one year age groupings up to 12!  How awesome is that?  After the race all kid finishers recieve a medal, hot dog and drink.  The grown ups participating in events may join the sunset pasta dinner cruise on board the Tahoe Queen Saturday the 22nd 5:30-8:30p.m.  All finishers recieve medals and shirts.</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>Along with summertime come bbq's and cocktails, two things that can definitely sabatoge anyones diet and hard work throughout the week at the gym. Here is the low down on alcohol, it contains 7 calories per gram!  Protien and Carbohydrates contain 4 and Fats contain 9.  So alcohol is almost as high in calories as a gram of fat!  That being said when you combine it with all the sugary mixers that most bar tenders use; your average 3-4 oz cocktail ends up being around 400 calories!  I don't know about you but 400 calories is about 40 minutes of cardio for me!   So here are some cleaner cocktail recipes to help keep you on track and not ruin your waistline while  enjoying some summer fun.</p>

<p>Blend and serve or simply pour over ice.  Salt to taste (optional)<br />

<strong>You have got to try this one its healthy tasty and low carb!</strong></p>

<p><strong>Ingredients</strong><br />
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 pounds) <br />
3 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, divided <br />
3 tablespoons soy sauce ( go low sodium )<br />
1 clove garlic, minced <br />
2 teaspoons dried oregano, divided <br />
2 small tomatoes, finely chopped <br />
1/4 cup olive oil <br />
For the yogurt sauce:<br />
8 ounces (1 cup) unflavored yogurt <br />
1 clove garlic, minced <br />
1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts <br />
1 tablespoon olive oil <br />
Olive oil cooking spray <br />
1 large Vidalia or purple onion, cut into thin rings <br />
6 pita breads <br />
1/2 head romaine lettuce, finely chopped <br />
1 (10.6-ounce) jar kalamata olives, drained, halved, and pitted, or other black olives <br />
Alfalfa sprouts <br />
Salt <br />
Freshly ground black pepper </p>

        <![CDATA[<p><strong>Directions</strong><br />
Rinse the chicken breast and pat dry. Combine 3 tablespoons lemon juice, soy sauce, garlic and 1 teaspoon of the oregano in a glass dish. Add the chicken, turn to coat, and cover with plastic wrap. Allow the chicken breast to marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator. </p>

<p>Combine the tomatoes and onion in a small glass dish. Add the remaining 2 teaspoons lemon juice, the olive oil, and the remaining 1 teaspoon oregano, and stir to combine. Allow to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. </p>

<p><em><strong>Melissa Tip -  If you need to save time I really don't see the need to let these marinate for 30 min - I think they would be fine as is - remember you are going to make a yogurt sauce to dress it up with anyway!</strong></em></p>

<p>For the yogurt sauce:<br />
In a small bowl, whisk together the yogurt, garlic, walnuts, and olive oil. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. </p>

<p>Preheat a grill to medium heat. <br />
<em><strong>Melissa Tip - You can cook chicken breasts faster if you butterfly them first!</strong></em></p>

<p>Spray a grill basket with olive oil. Grill the chicken breasts over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, until no longer pink in the thickest portion of each breast. Spread the onion rings over the surface of the basket and grill while the chicken is cooking. Turn the basket frequently. The onion rings will blacken as they cook; this will also take 8 to 10 minutes. When the chicken and onion rings are cooked, place the pita breads on the grill for about 2 minutes per side, until grill marks show. Slice the chicken into very thin pieces. </p>

<p><em><strong>Melissa Tip - If  you don't have a grill or just aren't much of a barbequer, you can always saute the chicken and onions on the stove top or even use one of those grill pans on the stove top to get the same effect.</strong></em></p>

<p>At serving time, put out all of the ingredients and allow each person to assemble sandwiches: Split each pita. Place several slices of grilled chicken, 3 or 4 slivers of onion, a tablespoon of tomato mixture, lettuce, and olives into each pita. Top with yogurt sauce and a wad of alfalfa sprouts. Add salt and pepper, to taste. Fold up the sides of the pita and enjoy! </p>]]>

<p><strong>July 26th 2009 I ran in the 37th annual Wharf to Wharf race from Santa Cruz to Capitola.  What a blast!  The weather was perfect, a nice cool 60 degrees and what a great group of people!  The race is only six miles and is full of  eye candy. It starts in down town Santa Cruz by the wharf and continues on to cliff drive which follows the coast line and twists and turns through some great residential areas  along the way.  We also got spoiled with a different live band to rock us on our way at every mile, and lots of people on the side lines to cheer us on!  I will definitely be doing this run again next year, and be lining up at a faster starting time!  There were 15,000 people in this race and the first 8 minutes you couldn't even run it was so crowded!  My race pace for my marathon 3 years ago was a 10 minute mile, but I have actually increased my race pace finally to an 8-9 min mile!  Unfortunately because we couldn't run the first 8 minutes or so of this race my first mile took 15 minutes!  But I made up time and finished in 1 hour and 1 minute!  Not Bad!  If you are considering training for a marathon or even half marathon, this is a great race to think about doing along the course of your training.         <![CDATA[<p><strong>I would like to begin this piece with a quote from one of  my favorite inspirational and influential speakers, Brian Tracy. " You are what you think about most of the time."  When you think about it - that one statement is pretty powerful, it says that you create who you are by how you think about yourself.  Its something I didn't always see or understand, but when I sit back and reflect on different passages in my life I have come to find it to be very true.  You cannot control what others think or do but you do have the power and ability to change others perception of you by how you see your self.  If you think you are a worthless, hopeless person with nothing to offer most of the time - you will do and behave as a hopeless worthless person - who life happens to.  On the other hand you may be in a bad situation, or spot in your life but instead of choosing to see the situation as hopeless and give up, you think hmm... what can I do to get myself out of this mess, come up with a series of steps and a reasonable time line and keep working towards that goal.  Two very different ways of thinking.  One is the victim mentality and the other is the Can Do mentality.  Sure, not all of our problems in life can be solved right away and  we may have to accept the fact that for a certain amount of time a situation is  what it is and we have to choose to make the most of it for now, but in time with a plan, we can and do have the power to change that situation, and do not have to accept failure.  Only when you stop trying do you truly fail.   Think about who you want to be and find someone who has those characteristics, study that person, go ask them questions if you can.  Questions like how did you get to be where you are, what things do you do on a daily basis to get you there? <p>Ladies Night Out provides a fun and relaxed "common ground" for women to get to know other women they don't neccesarily associate with on a day to day basis.  Its a great way to meet new friends or share laughs with old ones. </p>

<p> They meet every 2nd Friday of the month at different coffee shops and restaurants throughout the Lodi area.  This months focus topic is Stress Relief, I think we could all use some of that!  </p>

<p>Women are multi taskers and tend to be the organizers and care givers for many, between juggling work, family, household responsibilities and  playdates it's no wonder that by the end of the day we feel a bit FRAZZLED! </p>

<p> At Ladies Night Out I will be speaking about How to <strong>REDUCE</strong> your stress levels through excercise and good nutrition and teach you a stress relief workout you can do anywhere.</strong><br />
