Friday Fitness FAQ
My friend Tracy who is also a writer for Family Time, emailed me this week with questions about simple ways to increase the activity level of people who aren’t quite ready for the gym. She came up with the basics like these below which are great starting points to slowly increase your daily amount of movement and calories burned.
1. Take the stairs, not the elevator
2. Walk to the bus stop to pick up your kids instead of driving
3. Park in the back of a parking lot instead of the front
Question : My goal for the article is to give sedentary people really easy, almost without thinking ways, to increase their activity level. I’ll end the article with a prod toward increasing it even more once they become adjusted. Do you have any ideas?
Answer:
Awesome I would love to help; Here is my spring theme:
1. Get your garden ready for spring – raking leaves and cleaning out planter beds believe it or not burns some calories and uses your arms and legs – Natural Cardio!
2. Pruning is great exercise for your upper body – chest and arms
3. Planting is also great for your core muscles like your abs and lower back because you are stationed so low to the ground you have to balance yourself – also when most people plant they are squatting down and standing up which is great for your legs and glutes.
4. Just drink water – quit drinking everything else – your energy will go up – you will drop at least a few pounds.
5. If you have animals – walk them they need the exercise too.

March Exercise of the Month
March’s exercise of the month is for your mind. After all the chaos of the holidays we can all feel a little stressed out! My mantra for March is Meditation – wether you find a yoga class to attend or just 10 quiet minutes to yourself to sit and clear your mind find the time this month to meditate. I know we all get busy maybe 10 minutes isn’t realistic for you yet – try starting with 2! You will be surprised at how much clarity it can bring to all the stuff going on in the nogin!

Enhance Your Diet With Antioxidants!

Recently a client of mine came to me very excited about a new product she tried – being an extreme fitness enthusiast and having allergies to things like soy, wheat, gluten and dairy she has to be very careful of the food choices she makes. Earths Promise is a supplement powder that contains vitamins and minerals and is super high in antioxidants and fiber. Working out is great for you but a lot of people don’t know that while you are excercising your body is realeasing extra Free Radicals. Free Radicals are basically unbalanced oxygen molucules inside your cells that have split and don’t have the right balance of electrons. In order to find that balance these free radicals will latch on to healthy cells and try to steal those electrons to bring itself back to balnce – thus doing damage to your healthy cells. Antioxidants carry with them extra electrons and fix the free radicals by bringing them back into balance without harming your healthy cells! Now don’t get me wrong if you already eat a great balanced diet – your body actually produces its own anti-oxidants, however if you are working out regularly and are finding it hard to get in all those fruits and veges – some extra antioxidants could be just what you need to fill in the gaps.
Being the skeptic that I am – I made her bring me some to sample! Wow Bernadette THANKS!!!! This stuff is awesome – I tried the purple packet wich contains your whole daily allotment of vitamins and nutrients from 5 of the fruits and veggies that are purple. I mixed it in with my Vanilla High Five Protien Shake and not only does it taste great but it really provides a huge increase in my energy! Their line also has other colors like green, red and orange. For all of you out there who don’t care for veggies – this is the product I would highly reccomend. You can make popsicles with it, add it into pancake mix for the family, muffins…. the possibilities are endless! You can purchase it online through the link above or pick it up locally here in Lodi at Healthy Ways on Kettleman Lane.
